Was it the fact that our visit to Newport OR and the Oregon Coast occurred at the end of August that gave the visit a bluesy mood? The end of summer; a preparation for autumn; changing of seasons and changes in life.
But more than that, there is something about a life at sea that to a landlubber like me is incredibly complex and that was partly what I wanted to convey.
Oh — and by the way — if you do visit,
take a few hours and check out the Oregon Coast Aquarium
For a small town, it’s a wonderful museum with a delightful
AVIARY — yes, an avairy at an aquarium!

Water so often conveys a sense of tranquility — even though the sea can often be treacherous and the surrounding elements may be filled with motion and hub-bub. Well, at least it’s a symbol of tranquility to this landlubber. Sun shimmering over the water even on an overcast day when the sun can scarcely be identified.

What a nice day!
We woke up about 5 after a really sound sleep. After we laid there for a little while I suggested that we get dressed and get on down to the lakefront to watch the sunrise.
Peg was surprised by the idea but all in it.
I’m afraid that the sunrise wasn’t as great as it might have been – overcast skies — but it was fun being out together, walking the point near the War Memorial Center and just enjoying the wonderful Spring aroma.
It was a morning of errands: gift certificate for our kid’s 19th anniversary, grocery shopping for Easter dinner, a trip to Farm & Fleet for new wiper blades for the CR-V, a trip to Steins Garden center to look at plants and fountains, quick visit to The Outpost for teas and almonds ( I know — strange combination ) and then a trip down to Lentz Gravel to check out rocks and boulders for our yard — Dunno… is $92.00 / ton a good price for granite? We’ll find out.
Wednesday I checked with Milwaukee Plate Glass about new windows in the building — almost afraid of what they will say, but we’ll find out one of these days when the quote comes in. Not sure I want to be spending that kind of money on the building again this year with the economy the way it is and business the way it is, but we’ll see. Not sure if we would ever see a payback — but who knows.
Twas a nice day just being together as a couple. I never get over the feeling of privilege to still be married to the same gal after 41 yrs and still enjoy her company. So many of our friends have been through multiple marriages (to say nothing of countless relationships) and here we are after all this time, having done very little dating and still quite happy with each other.
Leftover pork roast ended up in it’s last iteration as pork stirfry with Thai chili – peanut sauce — A nice way to wake up the tastebuds. Dinner was much simpler with a simple salad overflowing with that Sartori Gorgonzola I love so much. If you haven’t tried Dolcina by Satori you’re missing out on a real treat. Much smoother than original Roquefort ( I really don’t like that graininess that is such a trademark) and very little of the bitterness that is typical of Maytag blue or somemany others.
The family’s due over about 1 on Sunday for dinner — so I’ll be cooking most of the morning and loving every minute of it.

It’s a curious little boat, isn’t it. I found it moored in the river just outside Limoges France.
