As far as I’m concerned, Spring is on the way. The warm-ish weather has me thinking about gardening. (Except for the snow flurries this morning)

We are hoping to be gone soon — but real estate deals do take time and it’s possible we’ll still be here in the Spring/Summer/Fall — and one thing is sure:  Mother Nature will have her way. We have trees and shrubs that are very confused right now:  buds and leaf sets that have tried to sprout at the same time other plants are still quite sound asleep.

Some of our plants are in the ground now for three years.  Do you know the old saying about plant growth?

The first year plants sleep,
The second year plants creep,
The third year plants leap.

I’m wondering what’s going to happen this year.  We planted Skyrocket Juniper‘s when they were about 18″-24″ tall — and at least one of them is not 6′ — as tall as I am.  We have European Variegated Dogwoods that are bushing out and two versions of Ninebark that are showing real prospect.

I’m a bit concerned about our Butterfly Bushes though — I’m not sure if we have them planted too close to other plants.  Here in Wisconsin they die back nearly to the ground — but in milder climates they achieve tree status.  Our milder winters the last couple years have the plants a little uncertain about whether they are supposed to be big plants or small ones.  It will be interesting to see what happens this year.

We had ideas about putting in more paving stones — in the “park” part of the yard, but now that the house is up for sale we probably wont do that.  Depends on whether I get antsy and need something to do.
