About Us

Peter-Peggy Profile

Our house is on up for sale and we are treading water.  We’ll keep you updated on our life and retirement all the while we wait for a sale and move forward with our other plans.

After 33 years with Aurora Health Care my wife retired early and as a self-employed photographer  it was an easy decision to follow. Early retirement means we are younger, more active, and excited to do things we might not have considered had we waited.  We put our 1923 former schoolhouse up for sale, bought an RV and will hit the road full time as soon as the house sells. While we wait we’re sort of twiddling our thumbs; not our style.

Until we go mobile I’ll be writing about the physical and emotional process of ridding yourself of 95% of your possessions and preparing to the move from 6500 sq ft of living space to 280 sq ft. Hang on, it’s going to be an interesting ride.

Peter By Any Other Name

Peter By Any Other Name

I came across a nice little blog this morning (namely Marly), and a project called “Name Stories.” I enjoyed hearing how Sabrina got her name even if I have no idea who Sabrina is.  I suspect there are a lot of quaint, and pathos filled stories about people with the right or wrong names. My [...]

Spring is Coming

Spring is Coming

As far as I’m concerned, Spring is on the way. The warm-ish weather has me thinking about gardening. (Except for the snow flurries this morning) We are hoping to be gone soon — but real estate deals do take time and it’s possible we’ll still be here in the Spring/Summer/Fall — and one thing is [...]

The Hardest Time of All

The Hardest Time of All

One might facetiously say that humans aren’t suited to living at the pace of nature; but we are, in fact, a part of nature and her cadence is our own.  We may fight with her about that; but she sets her seasons, and we have our times for growing, maturing, building families, settling into the [...]

Hyper Sensitive

Hyper Sensitive

I can tell that I’m hyper-sensitive about things nowadays.  I need to pay better attention. My WordPress theme released an update which I automatically installed.  Suddenly I had sidebars on my front page, and they weren’t there before updating.  It was my reaction to the perceived problem that is my real problem.  I hit the [...]

A Surprise Realization

A Surprise Realization

Today I went to the clinic for my regularly scheduled semi-annual bloodwork, in advance of my regularly scheduled semi-annual doctor’s visit. All of that went fine. On my way home I was sitting at the stoplight on 27th & Oklahoma and it dawned on me that Milwaukee no longer feels like home.  It wasn’t a [...]

Lighten Up

Lighten Up

Sometimes you just need a break from the tedium and tension. Silliness makes the soul laugh.

Showing #8 Update

Showing #8 Update

It’s been a nice Sunday.  Slow to get out of bed, even if we did wake early.  Feeling kind of groggy so we didn’t get too excited about what we might accomplish today. My email did bring an update from the last showing, and the party is interested.  His girlfriend is out of town (I [...]

Waiting Time

Waiting Time

Have you ever considered that one thing you can’t be creative about is “waiting”? You can do things while you are waiting, but then you are doing things, not waiting.  The actual process of waiting is only and always the same.  And it’s just about patience.

Prisons & Palaces

Prisons & Palaces

Madame Guyon (1647-1717), French quietist author Jeanne Marie Bouvières de la Mothe Guyon was the leader of the Quietist movement in France. The foundation of her Quietism was laid in her study of St. Francis de Sales, Madame de Chantal, and Thomas a Kempis. At age 16, she married Jacques Guyon, a wealthy man of [...]

Mencken on Government

Mencken on Government

We are smack dab in the middle of election campaigning and I scarcely want to turn on the TV. When will voters realize that lying is part of campaigning? And when will they cease believing the lies?

Green Visor and Sleeve-Garter Time

Green Visor and Sleeve-Garter Time

Do you remember the accountant cliche image?  Green visor, and sleeve garters?  That’s how I feel today. I have always hated accounting;  money has never been something that motivated me, and counting it has never been anything I enjoyed.  Considering how much of my working life I was self employed that may seem an odd [...]

Finding Natural Food

Finding Natural Food

Today was a gorgeous day. The temps hit the mid 40′s, and the sky was blue and clear. And it’s February 16. Can’t complain about that kind of winter! It seems as if we spent the day going and coming. We got the weekly shopping done today.  Shopping in retirement is turning into a interesting [...]
